The centaur is shown using an accurately represented simple bow with the kind of barbed arrow widely used in warfare by Western European warriors. He also wears a conical helmet with a slightly forward-angled crown and a substantial nasal. This may be taken as evidence for the spread of normal Western European military technology into the previously somewhat isolated world of Gaelic Irish arms and armour.
