Plate LIII (53)

PL. LIII.    There are on the windows of St. Denis four pictures for the latter expedition. The first was not showing all its fullness because at the top of the window it narrows there. It represents the result of those Arabs who withdraw to Ascalon, defeated by the forerunners of the Christian army. This is what the inscription says Arabes victi in Ascalon sugiant. The picture below shows Robert Duke of Normandy, a lance blow brings down the enemy leader. The inscription reads: Robertus Duc Normannorum Parthum prosternit.
PL. LIII.
