283    Magauran Duanaire manuscript, Ireland, early 14th/15th centuries
(ex-Journal of the Galway Archaeological and Historical Society, vol. XVI (1936), p.84)
Although the manuscript in which this drawing is found dates from the early 14th century, the illustration itself may be a later addition, perhaps from as late as the 15th century. The rider's sword certainly looks later than the 14th century. He also wears a mail hauberk, possibly a large bascinet with a nasal, and he carries a heavy, broadbladed spear.
