Uniforms Of Spanish Units At Talavera

(Spanish Text by José Manuel Rodríguez Gómez, Illustrations by Jose Maria Bueno)

Officer, Regiment of Burgos, Provincial Militia

All provincial militia units wore uniforms of the same colour: bright white cloth; red, round cuffs and turnbacks. The uniform buttons were inscribed with the name of the province of origin. The figure represents a sub-lieutenant which is denoted by wearing the gorget (his grade is indicated by the epaulet on the left shoulder) in service uniform. His regulation sabre is longer and straighter than that of the rank & file.
