To reduce the size of the download a little work is required to set it up. Create a copy of the WNLB folder and name it PenMod. Unpack the next 7 zips into the PenMod folder, in this order, with 'use folder names' & 'overwrite existing files' checked (say yes if asked whether to overwrite any files): PenModExe.zip GenericPenmodBags1_3.zip or later version PeninsularMod_WNLB_soldiers_V3 PeninsularMod_WNLB_loading_screens.zip PeninsularMod_WNLB_French&BritishSounds.zip SpanishSounds.zip PeninsularMod_WNLB_v3.zip Optionally unpack the next 3 zips into the PenMod folder, with 'use folder names' checked. PeninsularMod_WNLB_music2.zip PeninsularMod_WNLB_music3.zip PeninsularMod_WNLB_video.zip If you are using Windows 7 or Vista, see http://greatestbattlesforum.yuku.com/topic/734/Batch-Files-Windows-7 After unpacking the .zips: delete Waterloo.exe from the PenMod folder. If you have WinXP or later: set the properties (right click) of Penmod.exe to Win98 compatability. Note : you must have BagBoy to add the other Graphics files - if you don't have it you can find it at http://users.chariot.net.au/~mab/zips/units.html (see the ModInfo folder for a help file). Install BagBoy by doubleclicking on bagboy10.exe and following the install wizard prompts. Start the BagBoy utility by using its shortcut. Start the BagBoy utility, Go to "File" and click on Open" A box will pop up; in the bar entitled "Look in", navigate your way to the PenMod/Graphics folder. Graeme ************************************************************************************************* The original readme by Davros: ************************************************************************************************* Welcome to the Peninsula Mod for "Waterloo - Napoleon's Last Battle". [If you downloaded and extracted PeninsularMod_WNLB_video.zip] For the video to run, it requires a DivX decompression codec. If you do not have this, there is a new folder called "Divx Codecs", containing an installation program called: "Nimo50Build7.exe". There is also a simple "How to" guide, to using that program. Waterloo.exe has been modified (patched) and has been renamed PenMod.exe. Double-click on it and the game should run, but do not forget that you will need your copy of WNLB in the CD drive, to proceed. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Changes that might be of interest to modders. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The sub-folders and files contained within the PenMod folder have a similar structure to that of WNLB, with some self evident additions. In the main folder there are three alternative loading ani's which you might care to try out when time permits. There is also a file named: "JPIEXWe.dll", this is essential for running the PenMod.exe, so take care of it! There is also a file named "newuniformnumbers.txt" in the ModInfo folder which contains a list of the altered uniform/hat and leader numbers. I have added a few brief notes on new or changed map elements in the MapCreation guide (in the ModInfo folder). German voices have been replaced with Spanish. Some French & British commands have a drum or bugle signal or music added after the command. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The .ini file ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Waterloo.ini file now contains numerous options which are made available by the PenMod.exe and which are enabled by the line: "ExtensionOff=0". To disable these extra features, should you so wish, the line should read: "ExtensionOff=1". Should you disable the extra features, the game will still run, but all of the elements enabled by the extra features will be missing. The list of tunes contained in the .ini file may be changed as you so desire. You may add your own music also, as long as the tunes are of the correct format, that is: .wav signed, 16bit, mono at 22050hz. The tunes are contained in a new folder named .\Sounds\music [optional download]: The video intro is enabled by the line "VideoIntroOff=0". To disable the video intro, change the line to "VideoIntroOff=1". The video itself is contained in another new folder named "Video" At present there are 21 loading screens but you may wish to create your own. You can paste your own pictures and quotes, (which should be in anti-aliased, size 12, "Bangle" font), in the appropriate places and then convert the bmp's to bm2, using the BagBoy utility. Loading files need to be in "WaterAux.bag". The line in the .ini file that affects the number of screens, currently reads: "LoadingScreensNum=21", change as appropriate. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The MapData folder ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The MapData Folder now contains seven extra files connected with the PenMod.exe. These are: Config01.cfg -Busaco Config21.cfg -Vimeiro Config30.cfg -Talavera Config47.cfg -Busaco HouseOff.csv -Busaco HouseOff21.csv -Vimeiro HouseOff30.csv -Talavera The .cfg files contain instructions for map dimensions, the selected ColourMap, the JumpMap and for the removal of Hougoumont. They also contain information on the extra fortified houses which are numbered 5-9. The "HouseOffnn.csv" files contain the offsets controlling the relationship between each fortified house and its occupiable building flag in each seperate map. I have changed Formations.csv slightly, to enable a battalion in skirmish order to completely cover the frontage of two equal sized battalions behind it. Should you wish to change that, simply substitute the untouched file from WNLB. It is possible to designate individual "WaterMap.Bag" files for different scenarios. For example, for scenario "Scen47s09.scn" this would be enabled by a line in the relevant config file that reads: "MapBagFile=.\Graphics\WaterMap47.bag" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The scenarios folder ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the Scenarios folder, the game's main scenario is listed as "water10.scn". However, in order to have a "custom" scenario to work on as well, for purposes of testing, the same scenario is also listed as: "Scen47s09.scn" Campaign number Battle 1 Busaco 21 Vimeiro 30 Talavera 47 Busaco Each scenario can have it's own seperate collection of uniforms which should be placed in the scenario's individual bag file, designated by the scenario's number. eg. "WaterArmy30.bag". That goes in the main graphics folder. The option is enabled in the requisite scenario config file which should be present in the MapData folder. It reads: "ArmyBagFile=.\Graphics\WaterArmy30.bag" There is an extra tutorial scenario: "water06.scn" which is an attempt at a mountain warfare tutorial. It's great fun, up in those rocks, but not if you are French, which for tutorial purposes you are. Take it easy! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [not included in this download, see the GB file formats download]: I have added a new folder entitled "Modding tools" containing Matt and Jeroen's "OOB Editing Guide" and Craig's edited compilation of "Great Battles File Formats". The information contained in these documents should be enough to, not only, get anyone started at creating their own scenarios, but also, answer the questions of experienced users. I have also included the BagBoy utility and a very simple, step by step, guide to its basic use. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have had occasional problems with the Create/Edit a battle functions. Particularly the Battleloc map. Corellating positions on the Battleloc map with positions on the game map is at present quite restricted, owing to the increased size of the game map. It does seem rather touchy but I don't see it as crucial and I'm sure we'll solve this next year. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you have any other problems with the mod please feel free to contact me, either at "Modders Corner" at the GBRC site or at the address below. En avant mes amis, the game's afoot! Davros mab@chariot.net.au http://chariot.net.au/~mab/zips/units.html
