Borodino for ANGV version 1 or 2 The zip files needed are: BorodinoMusicFrench.zip BorodinoMusicRussian.zip (which includes the 1812 overture) BorodinoANGVArmy.zip BorodinoANGVGraphics2_3.zip BorodinoANGVMainV2_3.zip or later version & ModdedANGVExe.zip for play under ANGV v1 and the ANGV v2.001 patch. Note: If your operating system is set to the default of not displaying common file extensions, you will not see .exe, .zip or .bmp file extensions. The unusual .bag & .bm2 file extensions should be seen. Make a copy or new installation of ANGV. Rename the folder BorodinoANGV. Add the files from the ANGV v2.001 patch, but not necessarily the austerlitz.exe file if you intend to play using v1. Unzip BorodinoMusicFrench.zip, BorodinoMusicRussian.zip, BorodinoANGVArmy.zip, BorodinoANGVGraphics2_3.zip, & BorodinoANGVMainV2_3.zip into the BorodinoANGV folder in that order, with "use folder names" and "overwrite" files checked, and overwrite files if asked. No file packing is required but you must DELETE, rename or remove Watermap.bag & Watermisc.bag from the graphics folder. This will force the program to get the needed files from the graphics folder instead. This mod can be played using modded version 1 or unmodded version 2 ANGV. Version 2 is not necessarily better than modded version 1. Version 2 does not have working fog, sunset & sunrise are always for Winter in Bohemia, jump maps must be stretched to fit the standard size and the number of loading screens can't be set to the number available for a mod. It does have extra features but the only ones used here are extra infantry graphics, reduced firepower for poor troops & the 7lb Howitzer gun type. Installation under UniPatched ANGV version 1: Add the austerlitz.exe that has been modded to remove Sokolnitz, and JPIEXAe.dll which is required for the Unipatch used on this .exe. These can be found at http://greatestbattles.iblogger.org/GB.htm as ModdedANGVExe.zip. Apply the Artillery patch to have artillery effectiveness as you prefer. Copy & paste config60.cfg from the v1 sub folder of MapData to the MapData folder. Installation under ANGV version 2: Add the austerlitz.exe file (only) from ANGV v2.001 patch to the BorodinoANGV folder, if you did not do so above. Copy & paste config60.cfg from the v2 sub folder of MapData to the MapData folder. For v1 & v2: If using XP or later, right click on the austerlitz.exe file and set the compatibility to Win98. Make a shortcut on the desktop by right clicking on austerlitz.exe, "send to" then "Desktop (create shortcut)". When you have had enough BorodinoANGV, delete the BorodinoANGV folder & shortcut, no need to restore. If you are using Windows 7 or Vista, see http://greatestbattlesforum.yuku.com/topic/734/Batch-Files-Windows-7 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The changes in "Borodinofiles.zip" from Davros' site are includes. The included OOBs for v1 have only 8 infantry slots used as this is all version 1 can handle. The original OOBs had a lot of portraits that seem to have been allocated randomly. I have changed these to have standard WNLB & ANGV portraits with their original numbers plus new portraits. The large portraits can have any name as the full file name must be used in the scenario description (.sci) files. fort02 is a new mod with 8 view angles rather than the original mod which repeated 4 views. 5 Jan 2009 - The labels file included now has the extra lines for user defined artillery needed by version 2.001. 4 April 2009 - A menu.txt based on the ANGV version has been substituted for the one based on WNLB. This has an extra line for fog. Without it the text below it is off by 1 line. 6 May 2009 version 2.0 Revised colour map & fog files. The full 26 possible cavalry uniforms are used with some new uniforms & with Russian hussars with post 1809 uniforms. Changed uniforms for the 8 infantry uniforms used for version 1 ANGV including a new uniform to represent the better dressed Russian militia. An extra 13 infantry uniforms for version 2 ANGV including new uniforms for Italian, Dutch & Westphalian Guard Grenadiers. See uniformcode.txt in the ModInfo folder for details. Soldier graphics have been edited to remove "halos", corrected shadow & background colour that is not the correct shade, corrected red colour that is accidently background colour and cavalry have been realigned to seat the horse much better. The Russians now have a green 6 pounder, the Poles have a French 6 pounder. Fort offsets have been entered. A JumpMap for version 2 ANGV. Some more of the Kolocha is unfordable. Some all-pine-tree forest has been used. An extra level of elevation has been put in between each of the previous levels. An edited town group1.bm2 that fits the town ground better is included. Revised hat file and hat entries in OOBs. Russian Grenadiers have a grenade with 3 flames, musketeers a grenade with 1 flame. Even more portraits. Prussians have their own morale block rather than the ethnic Netherlanders. Croats are now Light Infantry. All jagers are now rifle armed. Berthier's HQ guard has been revised. Gerard & Broussier were superimposed in scenario 71 so divisions have been shuffled. 6 French Imperial ADCs have been added to the OOB as army commanders & each scenario has at least 1 to activate/deactivate units and to lead local attacks/defence. Mortier has been demoted to a corps commander & Sorbier to a division commander with the Imperial Guard Reserve Artillery being renumbered to be in the same corps. Many of the units in the large scenarios now start inactive (or frozen for corps commanders & artillery). Gorchakov now commands the Russians around the Shevardino Redoubt. 14 May 2009 BorodinoMoreFiles.zip adds new graphics of Pavlov Grenadiers in their characteristic mitre, a few more portraits, and OOB files that use them. 16 May 2009 BorodinoMoreFiles.zip includes new Portugese Legion graphics plus Guard Voltigeurs & Vistula legion. 4 new "hats" and revised hat Nos in OOBs. Young Guard Regiments renamed. 19 May 2009 4 new leader graphics: Ney, Hussar General, Polish Leader & Russian Militia Leader. 20 May Portugese, Westphalian & Wurttemburg hats. Portugese are now light infantry. The longer .sci information files shortened to reduce the chance they will cause a freeze. Borodino Heights added as a victory point site to the Borodino scenario & the Borodino site changed to Borodino Bridge. 22 May Russian Cuirassier & Dragoon graphics with new helmets. Saxon hat added to hat2.bm2. 8 June Italian Foot Artillery use the Russian Artillery Crew graphic. 13 June Portugese Legion Shoot file aligned. Version 2_1 Many new graphics for infantry - see the ModInfo folder for pictures. 3 new graphics for Russian Hussars by DARoot. Many shoot files have had the ramming animation restored & others have been reordered to give a better effect. 6 Sept 09 Border displayed in 1 frame of Polish infantry march fixed. Names for some Russian militia commanders added. Leader 5:12:0:0 removed from scenarios but retained in OOBs for Create/Edit. Smolensk militia numbers increased to historical numbers. Some militia at 90% effectiveness in scenarios to reflect poor armament. 27 Feb 2010 BorodinoANGVMainV2_1.zip: Animation added to Russian Militia commander. 14 March 2010 BorodinoANGVMainV2_1.zip: Russian Church graphic added. As Russian churches are mostly wooden & don't have stone walls around them they probably don't qualify as forts so they have been changed to graphics from specials2.bmp. A larger sized graphic with 8 views is included in fort01.bmp for modders to use. The plumes of the charging row of 130cavstand.bmp (Polish lancers) have been reduced so that they don't cross into the frame above. Commander added for Guard Equipage Bttn in Opening Skirmish-Capture the Bridge! Portrait of Wathiez added. 20 Mar 2010 BorodinoANGVMainV2_1.zip: Standard portrait 39 is probably Thielemann, so this is used and Lauriston is moved to 109. 24 March 2010 BorodinoANGVMainV2_1.zip: Russian Church graphic moved to correct folder. OOB hat codes changed & Hat2 file rearranged to allow for a WNLB version. 6 April 2010 BorodinoANGVMainV2_1.zip: 2nd Army of the West-Artillery Reserve was incorrectly numbered as 11 corps in the Breaching the Line scenario - corrected. 22 June 2010 Maréchal Lefebvre designated as 3:1:0:0.2 in 2 scenarios so that Maréchal Mortier does not appear twice. Version 2_2 Batteries and detachments placement has been revamped as in the WNLB version. The redoubt behind the Semyonovka stream has been added. New graphics for Russian buildings have been added. Blank Vines background is use for the church in Borodino. My notes indicate that SprOver04.bm2 should be in WaterMap.bag for V1 but in the Graphics folder for V2. The normal river is used rather than recoloured snow ponds with or without invisible river borders, to aid AI pathfinding & to give more room for the fight in Borodino. The crossings points are visible fords, roads or stream sections. Kutaisov was the overall artillery commander so is now a corps commander. In the absence of Bucholtz, Kostenetzki is the acting commander of the 1st Army of the West-Artillery Reserve. Various independent reserve divisions have been placed under Kutaisov. He can now lead some of these in an attack and get killed. Russian & French Corps (except the Polish Corps) with IDs greater than 9 have been renumbered to avoid any problems with v1 ANGV treating these as hexadecimal numbers. Large graphics added since Version 2_2 have been moved to BorodinoANGVGraphics2_2.zip French Imperial ADCs have been moved in scenarios in an attempt to reduce the French AI keeping them in a clump with Napoleon. Version 2_3 File packing is no longer required. All soldier graphics used are in a waterarmy.bag file. DARoot's new dismounted & mounted cavalry have been added. Bavarian helmet added to hats graphic. 2 new militia versions have been added to reduce uniformity. Wurttemburg Jager & Westphalian Jager & Jager Carabineers graphics are 10% brighter. "127th Line (2 batt. and 2 light guns) and 1st Mecklenburg Battalion served as escort of parks of the I Corps and did not participate in battle" so have been commented in the OOBs. Wurttemburg & Saxon artillery have 7lb Howitzers gun types for v2 ANGV. 7/5/11 Portrait of Dejean added. Graeme http://warfare.cf/Greatest_Battles/Greatest_Battles.htm ******************************************************************** DESIGNER'S NOTES Map It wasn't until I was 1/2 way through that it was pointed out my map on its default view doesn't face north. Perspective wise this is a bit of a shame as the camera angles don't give you a true north even when you rotate them. It was however the easiest (and best) map I had. So for those of you who grab your history books and think things don't line up properly I can assure you they do & are to scale. Just one of those modding compromises. The only hidden terrain is in the redoubts the new redoubt/trench graphic (courtesy Avon) is the old sunken road (50% defensive bonus) , this is underlied with the sandpit code to make the terrain non-cav. It seems to work well as the way to dislodge those Russians seems to be with the bayonet in assault column. The biggest problem I faced was the non crossable Kolocha river. I have compromised and made the parts where the French had to cross uncrossable (except for their historic crossing points) As a rule the clear riverbanks are uncrossable the marshy river banks are the crossing points. Past Borodino heading east its all crossable. The reason for this is that in the random battle if troops are placed on the non crossable code they will be trapped all game. Another of those hard compromises that had to be made. Remember river terrain is treated as plains by the game. The ingame random battle generator (not battgen) doesn't seem to work until you've started a scen. ie play a scen for a couple of seconds exit and select the random generator. Don't ask me why? ******************************************************************** ******************************************************************** WITHOUT WHOM Davros - For his unmatched technical assistance & encouragement.
