This is a user created campaign to enable you to play the Battle of Chancellorsville, 1863, on Sid Meier's Gettysburg. It replaces the map, scenarios & many graphics & sound files to new versions for Chancellorsville. There are 31 historical & speculative scenarios for the 2 days of Chancellorsville & 2nd Fredericksburg, Salem Church & Bank's Ford. I have added Opening Screens, animated intro screens and Randomization Lines to give alternate setups. The scenarios are linked by .dlg files so can be played as a sequence & with battle honor graphics. There are also a couple of large speculative scenarios that are not part of the branched campaign. One of these uses the 1st slot which is not part of the "play the battle" sequence. Have 'Show Scenario Introductions' set to see the animated intro screens. Campaigns 1) To play the Chancellorsville branched sequence of games - choose "Play Chancellorsville as a Series". There are some alternative campaigns that can be played: 2a) A straight series of 9 historical scenarios. Before choosing "Play Chancellorsville as a Series", copy the contents of the "Series" folder to the Chancellorsville folder. 2b) A straight series of 3 historical scenarios starting with 2nd Fredericksburg. As 2a but start by playing scenario 04. 3) A shorter branching campaign that does not include the 2nd Fredericksburg battles. Before choosing "Play Chancellorsville as a Series", copy the contents of the "ShortBranching" folder to the Chancellorsville folder. 4) A branching series of scenarios starting with 2nd Fredericksburg (including the possibility of an 'Early attacks Fredericksburg' scenario. Copy the contents of the "FredericksburgBranching" folder to the Chancellorsville folder, then start with scenario 04. After finishing one of these campaigns, set it back to the original setup, by copying the contents of the "LongBranching" folder to the Chancellorsville folder, before setting it up for a different campaign. The Randomization Lines work most of the time, but the randomization routine can go up a blind alley and be unable to produce a game, if it does, use the auto saved game to restart. Scenarios that are not part of the campaigns are: 23 Lee attacks Hooker 33 Hooker pincers Lee + variants 34 Longstreet verses Couch, Meade & Slocum Please post any comments and requests to http://mattslow.proboards.com/ To install: (unless you are short of hard disk space) make a copy of your gettysburg folder and rename it as Chancellorsville. Unzip into the Chancellorsville folder with "Use Folder Names" and "Overwrite Existing Files" checked. Say yes if asked to overwrite any read only files. Honors for most battles in the Chancellorsville battles will be displayed on a flag after each battle and an overall final score will be given at the end of the series. These honors are extracted into a sub-folder of the Chancellorsville folder called 'Flags' when you un-zip. Graphics for the animated introductions are extracted into sub-folders of the Chancellorsville folder called 'dialogs' & 'Sounds'. The dialog sound files contain no sounds but have timing marks used by the .dlg files. The Video folder contains short videos which replace the Gettysburg introductory & evening videos. Files are used from these sub-folders in preference to similar folders on the CD. The SMG CD (not the SMA CD) must be in a drive for the animated intro screens to play. If your operating system is using the default of "hide common extensions" you will not see ".exe" etc. Make a shortcut on the desktop by right clicking on lee.exe, "send to" then "Desktop (create shortcut)". When you have had enough Chancellorsville, delete the Chancellorsville folder & shortcut, no need to restore. Graeme http://warfare.gq/smx/SMG.htm ************************************************************************************* design notes: The original map for Chancellorsville is by Michael Neal with assistance from Jack Walker. The OoBs are by Michael Neal with assistance from Larry Hookins. These have been reordered for randomization line purposes. The scenarios by Larry Mattson have been modified to add a randomization line and are used for speculative scenarios, while I have made new scenarios for the historical scenarios. One of the campaign design assumptions is that Hooker will usually pull back even if he is winning. Scenario 22 can only be played as Union so I have not used it for a scenario. Instead it has the full scenario introduction animation of the campaign (within the limit of 24 unit blocks). As only the scenario numbers used by standard SMG have honors, only these will display new honors for Chancellorsville. Also only these will add points to your campaign total. This problem only applies to the long branching campaign. The gunners of Confederate rifle batteries wear a different uniform to the Napoleon batteries. This is done by including a full graphic in the files that usually have only an iron rifle barrel to overlay the bronze barrel. The infantry graphics included are my Confederate brownish-grey TR + Slouch hat; and Union Dark Blue by Jeroen Hill. Union cavalry by Michael Neal & CSA cavalry by Rich. 'Brompton' is by RVinceD. Graeme ************************************************************************************* original OoB readme Chancellorsville Order Of Battle from the book "Chancellorsville 1863: Jackson's Lightning Strike" by Carl Smith, Osprey Publishing,1998. The Osprey "Campaign Series" books are great as they list the number of troops each regiment fielded. If someone is willing to make a map of the Chancellorsville battlefield, I will make the scenerios. I have problems using Paul Sharp's Map Editor, without help files it is difficult for me to use properly. If possible, the Map should stretch east to west from Fredericksburg to a little beyond the Wilderness Tavern and north to south from the U.S Ford to the Unfinished Railroad.
