Chickamauga This is a complete battle pack, Alexander Królikowski has gone through and researched the orders of battle, from Peter Cozzens' "This Terrible Sound - The Battle of Chickamauga". The map is from Mike Hughes' Chickamauga, but edited in part. Comes complete with 8 scenarios by Alexander Królikowski plus Mike Hughes' large 2nd day scenario. To play scenarios that go for more than 1 day, you will need to have installed the 3rd patch for SMG (not the XP patch). To install: (unless you are short of hard disk space) make a copy of your Gettysburg folder and rename it as "Chickamauga3"). Unzip into the Chickamauga3 folder with "Overwrite Existing Files" & "Use Folder Names" checked. Make a shortcut on the desktop by right clicking on lee.exe, "send to" then "Desktop (create shortcut)". When you have had enough Chickamauga3, delete the Chickamauga3 folder & shortcut, no need to restore. To play Mike Hughes' scenario, copy the OoBs & scenario 27 from the "Hughes" subfolder to the main folder - overwriting files. To go back to Alexander Królikowski's OoBs - unzip again. This comes from the West Pointe atlas for American Wars. 4) Historically Accuracy The battle is the second day, September 20, 1863. The starting positions are based on the West Pointe atlas page 113. There are about 100,000 men on the board. You'll need a fast computer! The Union order of battle was created from Cozzens, "This Terrible Sound". The confederate order of battle I downloaded from "the Appomatox Courthouse" and modified. My thanks go to the original author whom I do not know. The troop numbers are a bit of a guess based on SSI's "Rebel Charge at Chickamauga" and the West Pointe atlas. The map was created with Paul Sharp's map editor. I photographically scaled the page 57 map in the Time Life book "The Fight for Chattanooga" to 121 yards per block (29 blocks = 2 miles). This scale I derived from the Gettysburg map. Then I printed a scaled grid on top. In this way I guaranteed the exact position of streams, roads and hills. The West Pointe atlas and maps in Cozzens supplemented for positions of farms, trees and houses. I researched multiple sources and found finally that there is no consistency between historical maps for roads. Some maps have a trail where others show a main road and another will show no road at all. In the end I modelled mostly on the West Pointe and Time Life maps. The same is true for streams. ******************************************************************************************** version 3.1: Brigades with individual unit order codes and individual units with brigade order codes and artilley batteries with Road order code in scenarios changed. Thetford's ford moved so a bridge is not produced. Building graphics added (5 IDs changed). Extra named sites added to increase random playability. Opening screens + blank listmap & overview maps added. Blank opening videos added. version 3.2 October 2010 The v3.1 "They are coming like a pack of wolves" scenario crashes when played as Union only - this turned out to be the combination of points for victory sites. The victory sites have been changed. Regiments in OOBs limited to 658, or to 619 if deployed individually. Some Union unattached units moved & unfrozen to hold VP sites for the AI in the 2 day scenario. Cavalry Corps in Królikowski's OBU & OBC changed to "C" 1st ID letter so they can be used to add a regiment or 2 of cavalry to random games. Hughes' OOBs renumbered to match Królikowski's so that all scenarios can be played with either OOB. Only the 1st 3 days of the month seem to be valid for various day objective points so the 1st & 2nd of September are used for the dates in the 2 day scenario. Some VP sites are only used for 1 day and points for these have been doubled. This should encourage the Union to attack on the 1st day. I found that the same site can't be given different points on different days. It is possible that adjacent sites could be used for this purpose. Pike downgraded to road. Some roads downgraded to trail. Some extra trails added. As streams and marsh are not deep enough to appear blue, I have experimented with changing the blue to brown & dark greens and the pulsing colours to golden. Pine terrain used for gnarled trees along creeks. Leafy terrain graphics now have a combination including pine trees. Church changed to a simpler style. School graphic changed. New wood/orchard texture. New Scenario List Map with a new palette and List Icons to go with this. A newly doubled combination of cN2 & cN4 CSA soldiers graphics from SMA has been added together with doubled TR with hat & blanket roll for USA + new cavalry & artillery graphics (modders names are in the files). A modified set of iron barrel graphics is included which have had any included uniforms trimmed so that they do no overlay the modded uniforms. A modified version (so they do not overlap into adjacent frames) of Norris-Hill flags added. Some other map & scenarios changes. http://warfare.gq/smx/SMGBattlePacks.htm Graeme
