The Western Louisiana Campaign is loosely based on Banks' Red River Campaign in Louisiana in March and April of 1864. It features accurate orders of battle for the Army of the Gulf and the Army of the Trans-Mississippi for this time period. Additionally, it was designed to "push" the envelope of the Gettysburg game engine, and see just what it was possible to do. The map includes abatis, earthworks, fences, dense forest and light forest. Many of the standard terrain graphics have also been modified, so the map doesn't look like a "normal" Gettysburg map. It also features a new opening menu screen and other enhancements that change the "look and feel" of the original game. Finally, it was designed to be played as a "Fight the Battle" campaign. Each of the scenarios does link to the next, and if you choose the campaign, the game will follow a logical progression from early cavalry skirmishes as Banks' moves northwest from Alexandria, culminating in large battles closely based on Sabine Crossroads/Mansfield and Pleasant Hill. Of course, each scenario may be played as a stand alone battle, or you may select a randomly generated battle. [Unfortunately, not all of the scenarios were completed. I run a Computer Battle Simulation Center for the US Army, and since November 1998, world events such as Bosnia and Kosovo have kept me too busy to devote the development time to completing these scenarios. I do still have my notes for each scenario, however, and someday, if time (and the interest of you game players) permits, I will try to finish the remaining scenarios]. Feel free to e-mail Robert A. Belflower with comments at belflowr@worldnetla.net or belflora@polk-emh2.army.mil. If enough people ask me to complete the scenarios, I will make the time to do so. Please note that this zip file will REPLACE almost every graphic file, scenario file and OOB file in your SMG directory. You are urged to back that directory up before you unzip this file. Robert A. Belflower ------------------------------------------- SMG Annex Note: Since the number of files that will be replace is so large, you might want to download the SMGFiles Utility from the SMG Annex at http://members.xoom.com/Hookins/gettysburg. Click on SMGFiles Utility in the main menu. The SMGFiles Utility will automate backing up your original files, installing the Western Louisiana Campaign files, and restoring your original files when you are ready. Follow the directions for the SMGFiles Utility on the web page and included with the Utility. Larry Hookins ------------------------------------------- http://mattslow.proboards.com note: I have uploaded what I have modified so far of the fictionalized Red River campaign available from http://www.beau.lib.la.us/%7Ebelflowr/bgard/sid.htm I have included new buildings and houses (by RVinceD & myself), used fresh troops in some scenarios, added detail and many names to the map (to aid randomized games), added randomization lines to most of the scenarios, a version of the branching mentioned in the post above so that you can "play the battle" as a campaign. If playing with the randomized option and it hangs when producing a scenario, restart and load end.sav to continue the campaign. I would like to insert a historical Battle of Mansfield (aka Sabine Cross-Roads, Moss Lane) scenario into this campaign. It seems that something like this was planned as sites for supply wagons are on the map (to use as the reason that some reinforcements are delayed on roads blocked by wagons) so I have included graphics of wagons and used these as extra mobile sites in scenarios. It also appears that a "Watson Farm" scenario was planned as there was a defensive wall there.
