"CASTIGOS DE SANCHO IV"
Sancho IV el Bravo (Toledo 1258 - 1295) fué el segundo hijo de Alfonso X el Sabio y de Violante de Aragón. A la muerte de su hermano Fernando de la Cerda en 1275, fué proclamado heredero al trono ante la necesidad de contar con un jefe militar. Las luchas contra los benimerines no le impidieron el mantenimiento del Sciptorum "alfonsí".
Este códice, de finales del s. XIII, recoge las enseñanzas aprendidas. Intercala sus experiencias con pasajes bíblicos, buenas costumbres tradicionales, e incluso añade algunos relatos de las Cantigas de Alfonso X. El texto y sus hermosas miniaturas de vivos colores, hacen de este Códice un escaso ejemplo de la literatura medieval española.

"PUNISHMENT OF SANCHO IV"
Sancho IV the Brave (Toledo 1258-1295) was the second son of Alfonso X the Wise of Aragon. On the death of his brother Fernando de la Cerda in 1275, was proclaimed heir to the throne due to the need for a military leader. Struggles against the Banu Marin did not prevent him from maintaining the "Alphonsine" Sciptorum.
This codex, from the late 13th century, collects lessons learned. Interleaving their experiences with biblical passages, good traditional customs, and even including some accounts of the Cantigas of Alfonso X. The text and beautiful brightly coloured miniatures, makes this Codex a rare example of medieval Spanish literature.
