Historical Sketch
On 26 January 1941, the Regiment mobilized the 4th (Active) Princess Louise Dragoon Guards. This unit was converted to armour and redesignated 4th Reconnaissance Battalion (4th Princess Louise Dragoon Guards) on 11 February 1941. The battalion was formed from personnel from 1st Canadian Infantry Division in the United Kingdom together with reinforcements from Canada in July 1941. On 08 June 1942, it was redesignated as 4th Reconnaissance Regiment (4th Princess Louise Dragoon Guards). "A" Squadron landed in Sicily on 13 July 1943 as a part of 1st Canadian Infantry Division and it was joined by the rest of the Regiment on 27 August 1943. On 04 September 1943, "A" Squadron landed in Italy and was joined by the remainder of the Regiment on 30 September 1943. On 13 July 1944 the Regiment was converted to infantry and redesignated 4th Princess Louise Dragoon Guards. It was transferred to 12th Infantry Brigade, 5th Canadian Armoured Division, and served in an infantry role.* It moved to North-West Europe on 26 February 1945, as part of 5th Canadian Armoured Division. The Regiment was again converted to armour on 15 March 1945 and was redesignated as 4th Reconnaissance Regiment (4th Princess Louise Dragoon Guards).
* 12th Infantry Brigade was in existance in 5th Canadian Armoured Division from July 1944 to March 1945.
