The decision of the Standardisation Conference was approved by the CIGS on 18 January 1945, and given effect in the following months, though the Standard Establishments were not finally authorized until 01 May (CWPC/P(45)3 dated 18 January 1945). A Standard Armoured Brigade (WE II/105/1) replaced the existing Armoured and Tank Brigade organizations. It was to be either Type "A" which included the infantry element (one Motor Battalion) or Type "B" which had no infantry. The Standard Armoured Regiment (WE II/157/1) was to be equipped with cruiser or infantry tanks and able to fulfill the role of either armoured exploitation or close support of infantry. Type "A" Armoured Brigade was to operate within an Armoured Division; Type "B" independently. All Tank Brigades were redesignated Armoured Brigades.
