The RHQ Echelon has to be varied in accordance with the battle. If fighting as a regiment, then it contains no "soft skinned" vehicles. If the squadrons are in support of infantry brigades, then the RHQ is as reflected above. This has been found to work admirably in recent operations. In one place of operations it was found necessary to set up a tactical headquarters for the commanding officer. This was made up as follows:

C.O.'s HUP
Scout Car
15-cwt
1 Sherman (for command)
2 Recce tanks

The recce tanks were used by liason officers to be at the various brigade headquarters. Sometimes the regimental command net functioned from the headquarters and sometimes from the RHQ. Generally speaking it's best to have RHQ and 'A' Echelon harboured together. Sometimes this is not possible because of suitable space for vehicles. The Field Ambulance works right along with RHQ and in the event of a regimental battle, locates behind 'F' Echelon and in front of 'A' Echelon.
