Djedeida. In an effort to rejuvenate the drive on Tunis, elements of
British 1st Parachute Brig are dropped at Depienne by Twelfth AF
C-47s, but the objective of capturing Oudna A/F and threatening
Tunis (10 mi to the N) fails because of overwhelming def of the A/F.
Over 300 casualties are suffered by the paratroops. P-38s and DB-7s
attack Gabes A/F while other US ftrs operate with RAF out of Bone,
furnishing air cover for ground units in battle area.

preventing reinforcement of Gona with fresh troops from Rabaul.

damage to one vessel by near misses. This strike begins a series of
raids on this water approach to Burma.
