British 13th Irish Light Dragoons 1782-86
UniformInfo - Military Modelling magazine

Q.
Sirs,
Would you please provide uniform information of the 13th Irish Dragoons 1782-86. I would also be grateful if you would confirm whether or not this regiment became the 13th Light Dragoons who were at Waterloo; I have the details of this particular uniform.
Milford Haven, Pembs.             K.C. Adcock.
A.

The 13th Dragoons became Light Dragoons in 1783 and changed their uniforms and regimental facings. The old uniform of scarlet with green facings was changed to one of blue with buff facings. The new Light Dragoon uniform was a short sleeved under jacket of blue, or waistcoat, worn with a sleeveless blue overjacket, or ʹshell jacketʹ. Both garments were looped with white, gold for officers. The collars, cuffs and linings were of regimental facing colour. A number of different head-dresses were experimented with in the early days until the ʹTarletonʹ helmet of black leather with its bearskin crest was officially adopted.
Prior to this the regiment wore a long tailed scarlet coat with green collar, cuffs and white turnbacks. White waistcoat and breeches. White metal buttons. Black tricorne hat braided white, silver for officers. High cuffed black cavalry boots.
